  • "I left the program with concrete tools to stick to a budget, grow my savings, and plan for future life goals. Most important, I have the confidence in my ability to manage money that I always longed for but never had until now. I am so grateful to Bethel and the program!"

    —Staci

  • "Bethel made financial hurdles so tiny for me, suddenly all the adulting tasks of getting things organized and under the control I envisioned were simply a thing to spend some time on. I feel that the days of agonizing over whether I'm doing a good job and succeeding with my money are over! Talk to Bethel!"

    —Carolyn

  • "I would tell a friend that if they have tried over and over again to establish a healthy foundation in their relationship with money and have failed time and time again, this program is for you."

    —Claudine

  • "I would say: Friend, this is a great coaching program for a person like you, who goes cross-eyed and zones out five minutes in listening to a financial planner or money influencer talk about budgeting. If your budget lacks clarity, or is too rigid, or you've never even had a budget, Bethel can help you figure it out in a way that is accessible and compassionate."

    —Andra

Meet the Coach

In my early 20s, I would wince at the word “budget.” I worried that facing my finances would restrict me in ways I didn’t want to be restricted. I was also knee-deep in student loan debt and felt like I was saving no money at all.

But after a major life event in my late 20s, I realized that I needed to finally become a financial adult. I gave my money-avoidant, liberal-arts oriented brain a crash course in personal finances and paid off $60,000 of student loan debt in two years.

It was through that process that I realized that I could approach my finances in a shame-free way—one that allowed me to appreciate my past, make sense of my present and take incremental actions that gave me a sense of agency over my future.

That experience is what led me to create Good Bones Financial Coaching LLC and my signature program, The Good Bones Edit.

Today, I help money-avoidant individuals and couples embark on a step-by-step path to create a custom-fit plan for reaching their financial goals.

I’ve worked with more than 60 individuals and couples since opening up shop in December 2024. You can read some of their reviews of The Good Bones Edit here.

  • Personalized

Everyone has different values and different financial priorities. We’ll uncover those components to construct a customized plan that best serves you.

  • Compassionate

It’s okay (and very common) to find money stressful. Sessions will be a confidential, shame-free zone where we can work together to clear the fog.

  • Professional

Sessions are led by me, Bethel Habte, AFC®. I passed the NCCA-accredited Accredited Financial Counselor® exam and I’ve accrued the 1000 experience hours I needed for full accreditation. I have signed the AFCPE® code of ethics and follow the AFCPE® standards of practice.

  • A house with “good bones” is far from perfect.

Maybe the kitchen needs an upgrade, the windows need replacing and the wallpaper in the bathroom is peeling.

But the structure of a house with good bones is solid. The pipes are functioning. The roof isn’t leaking. It’s a sturdy house, even if it isn’t perfect.

Good Bones Financial Coaching is all about helping you build a solid foundation for your “financial house.”

  • Accredited Financial Counselors® are fiduciaries, meaning we act in your best financial interest. We don’t sell financial products or insurance or tell you how to invest your money (CFP®s can tell you how to invest your money).

AFC®s are interested in helping you gain the skills to become a confident steward of your financial resources rather than being the person you lean on for financial advice. We work on short and mid-term financial goals while CFP®s are more helpful when thinking through long-term goals, like retirement and saving for college.

AFC®s must pass an exam demonstrating core competencies in personal financial education, accrue 1000 supervised experience hours and sign a code of ethics.

CFP®s must also pass a famously rigorous exam to do what they do.

  • I don’t believe most money management challenges are really about the numbers at their core. They’re about the stories and beliefs we carry and have inherited about this strange force in our lives that can stand in for so much: our sense of safety, success, our dreams.

Before we discuss how you’d like to move forward with your financial goals, we take time to “deconstruct” your money story to identify the assumptions that have been running your financial strategies up until point.

After that initial session, I have you develop your own intentions for how you’d like to revise those assumptions moving forward.

Then and only then do we begin talking about numbers.

  • Set up a free, 30-minute intro call with me so we can get acquainted! I’d love to learn more about you and your goals and give you more information about what The Good Bones Edit entails before you sign up.

“Taking responsibility means that in the face of barriers we still have the capacity to invent our lives, to shape our destinies in ways that maximize our well-being. Every day we practice this shape shifting to cope with realities we cannot easily change.”
